Prayer Cards

Some time ago, I found that my home church in N.C. had started mailing prayer cards to those whose names were listed on the church's prayer list. This appealed to me and I have started my own prayer card mission.

If you have a friend or relative, (doesn't have to be a member of our church), send me their name and address and I will be happy to send out a card.

We can help others, even if we do not know them, by praying for them in their times of need and please pray for me in this mission I have chosen.

Love,

Missions update/ Tornado Relief (From the April 27, 2011 Tornado)
Lester Memorial UMC has made significant response to the tornado disaster that ravaged much of Alabama. In addition to significant financial donations to UMCOR and local needs, LMUMC has sent out 10 work teams during the month of May to the following locations; Upper Sand Mountain Parrish, the North Alabama Conference disaster warehouse in Decatur, the Arab Rec. center, Blountsville UMC, Tuscaloosa, Clean-up and debris removal teams to Arab, Blountsville and Guntersville.

There is still much to do in the affected areas.  An article in the Birmingham News indicated that the number of volunteers is starting to fall off.  If you would like to be part of a team or lead a team please contact the LMUMC church office.  The staff can get you connected with a place to participate.

  APPALACHIA SERVICE PROJECT

APPALACHIA SERVICE PROJECT:  History and Ministry of ASP

Dr. Joe Hastings has written a history of ASP at Lester Memorial United Methodist Church.  You can read this by clicking on the "ASP" Button above.

Appalachia Service Project (ASP) provides one of the most rewarding structured service opportunities in the nation -- bringing thousands of volunteers from around the country to rural Central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. But ASP is more than just a building program. Yes, Appalachia's poorest families urgently need your help, but they can help change your life, too. Because when you change the lives of others, they have a way of changing you.
